invisible birthday

this year is a mechanical year

what powers this year is economically difficult

I dreamed of a swan that became a cloud

the cloud was a shipwreck that tasted familiar

o flashlights sweeping across the brush!

the things that never find me

come up again,            one two three

forgotten sundays

invisible rainbow

one hungry lion (blind)

a magic dog

a very soft sheep (wool)

a bear with a bib

two frogs (love)

a long-necked giraffe (blind)

a blue-eyed ram

of being lazy and not taking the time to understand

the pleasure of seeing its reflection

it can go through anything, even our school roof

ensuring that all surfaces are rinsed

invisible meaning not impossible

a touch meaning a primary contact (color)

an up and down, an up and up

wayward, which way, fast, untrue

day of unkind farewell

bright sexual something

to deserve and desert, o

            come upon

            and again in a

       foamy summer this

magnetic feeling

this maximum sheen

a robotic endurance!

bird says too

     specific these mnemonics

a hungry stream

            makes up sunday

     an asphalt tint cries

rain

invisible cloud

a figurative height

hidden by “veils”    (the moon

and what I want to understand

makes no mention of   cannot speak for

solar striation   as many fibers in the brain

to wander the face of,      never torn

a summer more like a song

this way! this way!

o skeet shot, o buck.

o laughing penguin cloud!

tremolo airglow, mint string chip

wink termite

            this lycra desire, manly man

my dorothea

           my charm.

            (for Dorothea Lasky)
