Above the doll, the suggestion of a rooftop,
green material a clotted moss.
A red flower and a white.
In the mock distance, boulders recede into mountains
painted on the glass.
There is an inside and an out.
In the newspaper: girl, laughing.
Hand over mouth to hide the shame
of shattering her porcelain face.
First poem, grade two, haiku:
My mini garden
of crocuses and snowdrops.
Tiny though lovely.
